Polychromo Exhibition
Polychromo — Alveston Fine Art, March 2023 A vibrant celebration of colour and creative exploration, Polychromo brought together works by Simon Dredge, Peter Black, Victoria Dong, and Bevil Templeton-Smith, with returning ceramicist Gràinne Watts showcasing a bold new series. Running from March 10–26, the exhibition was a year in the making—12 months of “trial, error and refinement”—that saw each artist pushing the expressive potential of hue across photography, ceramics, abstraction, and more.
Peter Black’s guiding ethos set the tone: “Primary and secondary colours… exist to be noticed and are not easily ignored.” Bevil Templeton-Smith offered an arresting counterpoint with his photomicrographs—large-format Chromaluxe prints of crystallized everyday substances in polarized light, merging scientific curiosity with painterly drama; eight of these works sold almost immediately. Gràinne Watts contributed richly coloured ceramic wall pieces that added textural depth to the visual dialogue.
Together, these artists created a space where discipline boundaries dissolved into a shared chromatic resonance. Polychromo exemplified Alveston Fine Art’s dedication to discovering new voices and staging exhibitions that are both visually and conceptually striking.
